CORE CURRICULUM

We complement our core curriculum programs with online applications such as IXL, Tenmarks, and Newsela. We also supplement with additional articles, books, online activities whenever the teaching and learning in the classroom would be enriched by doing so.

MATH

For over 10 years, Westwood Public Schools has continued to use the highly rated Investigations 2nd edition as our mathematical program.

SCIENCE

We have recently adopted Accelerated Learning's STEM Scopes as our new Science curriculum and are in the process of piloting and rolling out the implementation of this.

LITERACY

While there is no formal required literacy program in the Westwood Public Schools, many teachers draw from the  Lucy Caulkins Units of Study when planning units and lessons. In the younger grade the Fundations curriculum is used to help emergent readers and writers.

SOCIAL STUDIES

The 5th Grade curriculum for Social Studies teaches early American History from the earliest indigenous people, through the age of exploration, into settlements, and then onto the Revolutionary war, and ending with the the birth of the nation.
